15 facts about decorative wall panels
- The use of wall panels means fast, affordable and clean repair works. PVC panels are a quick do-it-yourself solution. Panels can be easily washed for being water-friendly and dust-proof.
- PVC panels are used for decorating walls in apartments, offices and trade centers, gyms and schools, production and utility rooms. Panels can be also fitted in unheated areas, for instance, garden house, balcony or garage.
- At home PVC panels are usually installed in the kitchen, bathroom, hallway and corridor, balcony and boxroom.
- Panels are installed in new houses for a period of several years as a temporary measure before the house is settled. Tiling may not survive settling and PVC panels are more elastic and resistant to deformation of the walls (due to fixing grids and size of panels – covering the whole height of the room).
- PVC panels are often installed on the ceiling. Standard panels sized 2.7 by 3 meters are used for small rooms (bathrooms, kitchens, balconies), more spacious premises require panels with 6 meter length.
- Fast repair includes one day for the bathroom, one day for the kitchen, half a day for the toilet room and one day for the balcony. You do not have to condition walls, finish it with construction mixes and wait for hours until the walls are dry. You don’t even need to remove old wallpaper. All you need to do is to fix a few strips of grid to the wall (wooden or plastic) and you can start mounting the panels. Please refer to “How to Install Wall Panels” section for details.
- Repair like this leaves very little of waste: shavings, panel and bar cuts. Remove it with a broom and the room is all new.
- The lifetime of PVC panels in normal conditions spans dozens of years. Provided you do not purposefully damage it with a crowbar, acid or constantly remove and place the panels back on.
- Panels conceal all wiring and cables. You can install thermal and sound insulation under the panels.
- ORTO wall panels are produced in 110 colors. Width: 25 and 33.5 cm, length: 2.7 and 3 m, custom length – up to 10 meters. Thickness: approximately 1 cm.
- Plastic panels are low-flammable and self-extinguishable, they burn only when exposed to direct constant fire. Once the source of fire is removed, the panels will put off fire and burning will stop immediately.
- A wet napkin is suitable for regular cleaning of panels. Use nonabrasive washing detergent for removing significant contaminations to avoid scratching the panels.
- Nice interiors can be created though the use of PVC panels of different colors. For instance, you can use one color of panels for corners of your kitchen and tile walls in between with panels of a different color. Or you can cover one third of the corridor wall in darker panels and the rest of the wall in a lighter, pastel color.
- ORTO recommends using art panels and murals for original decoration of interiors.
Art panels include picture panels, decors and borders. Picture panel is a set of 2-3 panels with an image printed on the panels, for instance, a landscape, a picture or sculpture. This image, unlike murals, takes up only a half or one third of the panel. Decor is a panel with a pattern printed across the whole length of the panel, and a border is a panel with a pattern across the width of the panel. Decors are used for vertical placement across the walls, and borders – for horizontal. Images in art panels are printed against the background of standard ORTO panels, therefore one part of a room can be decorated with art panels and the other – with regular panels of compatible color.
- Murals is a large installation consisting of several panels with an image across all the wall from floor to ceiling. It is an analog of photo wallpaper but on plastic. Images often feature picturesque landscapes. Width of murals ranges from 1 to 10 meters. Murals with width over one meter are sold as a whole or partially (four panels in a row). If you are looking for a particular size of murals, it can be customized for your individual needs.
